The Architect Draws

Arquitect's drawings tend to serve various functions. Some architects create sketches to present to their clients a vision of how their work could result; others draw for themselves and see thereby, in a clear and precise form, the viability of certain ideas, whilst others draw to sharpen and exercise their technique.

Eschewing strictly professional drawings as well as those done for simple entertainment, we have brought together in this exhibition a testament to the arquitect who draws. Halfway between art and architecture, these drawings represent what is perhaps the last generation of architects trained in draughtmanship prior to the ubiquitous use of computers. We have endeavoured therefore to underscore their artistic interest and the unquestionable aesthetic of the creative process of the architect as much as to render homage to Josep Lluís Sert on the centenary of his birth, one of the great architects of his generation who was friend, precisely with the group of architects here presented.
