Ramon Canet Ramon
Canet (Mallorca, 1950) is one of the most important painters of the Balearic
Islands. Characterised by their structural geometry and their exhuberant
expressionist gesture, the paintings of Ramon Canet are closely connected
to the Mallorcan Joan Miró as to the abstract tradition of the
New York School or the Paris Informalists, evoking Motherwell’s
Elegies as much as the work of Soulages, Fautrier or Michaud. With a reduced
chromatic scale, Canet creates simple compositions where the strength
and personality of the gesture evoke both a conceptual unity and a deep
spirituality. |
