Hoefer's use of the landscape as a recurring leitmotif is integrated into images
culled from ethnographical sources that together make a statement about
the ancient custodians of the earth, the spirituality in Nature and the
fragility of our planet. Inspired by the scenery of the Empordà ,
with their richly patinated surfaces, glazed with veils of umber and sienna,
these paintings present a view of nature that is hieratic, painted almost
abstractly and steeped in moody symbolism.
Carefully
crafted, these works are unique to their genre: they combine a long landscape
tradition with a very contemporary focus and recall a simpler time, that
quiet and mysterious place that inhabits our dreams. They are paintings
of love, a paean that celebrates the unique relationship that the artist
shares with Nature.
