Emilio Lecuona

Emilio Lecuona exhibited a selection of photographic images taken at the Brooklyn Cemetery during the artist's recent stay in New York. Created in his studio, Lecuona's photographic images are used as a point of departure for highly evocative works, charged with meaning, that invite the viewer to wrestle with his or her own memories. Neither nostalgic nor sentimental, these works are like reflections of desire, or that precise moment when, upon waking, we tread the uncertain realm between dreaming and consciousness.

Where the Image Ends Memory Begins

The work produced during the past five years is based on personal experiences lived through my travels and aim at capturing evocative images that express sensations beyond the pure image. The image is therefore never definitive, but only a beginning, where the memory becomes the primordial element in the creative process.
