Roser Oduber
In her most recent work, examples of which could be seen in the excellent exhibition organised by the Fundació Vila Casas at the Espai Volart in Barcelona during the Spring of 2011, Oduber merges the two paths, offering us works that are clearly figurative, yet with the dense and textured relief of the materials. The combination of these two techniques allows her to open a dialogue about the interior/exterior duality inherent in all human beings and engages us to question our perception of sanity, lucidity and dementia. Pictorial references to the brain, materic surface cracks in skulls and seemingly internalized storms fill the canvases of Roser Oduber with a powerful psychological charge that impel us to reflect on our own identities. During the past twenty years Roser Oduber has lived and worked in an old limestone oven in the middle of the Catalan Bagès countryside, far from the distracting hubbub of the city. But desiring to share this bucolic space with others, a few years ago she inaugurated the Centre d'Art Contemporani i Sostenibilidad de Calders (CACIS) offering artists of different disciplines studios, workshops and lodgings in the environment of the old oven. The classes, seminaries, performances and exhibitions organised by CACIS have since become an important part of the cultural horizon in the area. |
