Lluis Vilà

Born and raised in the province of Girona, Lluís Vilà is a native upon whom the Ampurdanese landscape has left but little impact. His paintings on paper reflect a personal vision imbued with a private language that generates the amorphous shapes he titles Logos. This reference to the Greek word that is the source of reason, speech and the means of communication, reflects Vilà's conviction of art's power to communicate. Quintessentially Mediterranean, Vilà's work is created by hand with the everyday materials employed by farmers on their fields and to add pigment to their homes: oxides and sulfates of copper and iron. While the work is deceptively simple at first glance, it carries the weight of history and is marked by the passing of time and the civilizations that have lived in this ageless land. |
